The Jaguar Academic Advising Association (JACADA) is a professional organization open to faculty members, administrators, counselors, academic advisors, career advisors, graduate students, and other members of the IUPUI community whose interest is in the area of academic advising and student success. Allied with the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), JACADA regularly offers professional development, networking opportunities, and other avenues to get involved on campus and in the advising profession. There is no cost to join JACADA, and members enjoy voting rights, and the ability to interact with others of a similar interest.
Each year, JACADA solicits nominations from students, faculty, and staff to celebrate and recognize advisors in four categories: Academic Advising (Primary Role), Faculty Academic Advising, and Academic Advising Administrator. Because our award winners are strongly encouraged to apply for the NACADA award in their respective category, in 2017 we decided to adjust the timeline of the awards season so it would better align with NACADA’s timeline. In that spirit, we also added a fourth category, Outstanding New Advisor, a category that already exists with NACADA.
Nominations will open in mid-September and will close in mid-October. Nominees who accept their nominations will submit their required materials by mid-November, and the Selection Committee (composed of the previous year’s winners) will review the materials before choosing the winners. We will announce the winners at the JACADA Holiday Party.
